Have Your Lodge Meeting at the Grand Lodge Building in Boston

Coming to Meet at the Boston Masonic Building?
The Grand Master has extended the opportunity for all Massachusetts lodges to hold a special communication at the Boston Masonic building free of charge. Grand Lodge's headquarters are at our Boston Masonic building; not every Mason has had the opportunity to come see the wonderfully ornate building that belongs to the fraternity, and in turn, to them as members of this Grand Lodge.
Interested in taking advantage of this offer? There are several factors to take into consideration while you are planning your lodge's trip to Boston:
The Boston Masonic building has a full time building staff, and is managed by the building supervisor, Luis Nieves. Contact him to see if space is available during the date and time you'd like to meet in Boston. He can be contacted by phone at 617-426-6040 or by e-mail at
In order to hold a regularly stated meeting in a town other than your regular meeting town, you need to obtain written dispensation from the Grand Master's office. In order to do this, you need to submit your request for dispensation at least 45 days in advance of the meeting date to be considered.
If you are only doing degree work, and not holding a regularly stated business meeting, you do not need to obtain dispensation.
Parking vouchers are available from the Grand Treasurer's office for the Millennium Parking Garage (47 Boylston Street) next to the Boston Masonic building. The vouchers cost $5 per vehicle. The vouchers are only valid on weeknights after 4:00pm, but are valid all day on the weekends for a period of up to twelve (12) hours.
Contact Craig MacPherson in the Grand Treasurer's Office for details about the vouchers at 617-426-6040 or by e-mail at
Public transportation will also get you to the Boston Masonic Building. We are accessible via the MBTA subway at the Boylston Street station on the Green Line, which is located directly across the street from the Boston Masonic Building on the corner of Tremont and Boylston streets. Another option is the Chinatown station on the Orange Line, which is located on the corner of Washington and Boylston Street.
You may want to consider other options, such as renting a bus so that members of your lodge can all travel together, if you desire to do so.
Holding a Lodge meeting means you need your lodge officer's regalia! Be sure to arrange to bring your own regalia along.
Along the same lines as making sure you have your regalia for a lodge meeting, be sure you are prepared with all of the additional items you will need to hold a degree here in Boston. Make prior arrangements to bring everything you will need for your visit with you.
The Boston Masonic Building regularly conducts tours for the public and has a volunteer tour guide staff. The tours run during the day on Mondays, Wednesdays, Fridays and Saturdays from 10:00am until 2:00 pm.
If the members of your lodge would like a full tour of the building on the night of your visit, we can arrange for tour guides to be available to you. Contact Wor. H. Robert Huke in the Communications office at 617-426-6040 or by e-mail at
We have three dining halls for you to consider using during your visit. The Joseph Warren dining hall in the sub-basements seats up to 80 people. The Grand Master's Banquet Hall, also in the sub-basement, seats up to 300 people. The Paul Revere Room, located on the first floor, has a capacity of 200.
In Boston, we have a list of approved caterers that are allowed to use the building. For insurance purposes, organizations using space within the Boston Masonic building are only permitted to select from these approved caterers:
- Family Crest Catering, 1206 Hanover Street, Hanover, MA 02339, Phone: 781.681.4303
- Fasano's Catering, Inc., 519 Pond Street, Braintree, MA 02184, Phone: 781.848.4768
- Stewart's Catering, 148 Main Street, Blackstone, MA 01504, Phone: 508.883.4855
If you have a caterer of your own you would like to use, you must provide a copy of their insurance policy for Grand Lodge to have on file. The company must be insured for a minimum of $1,000,000 in general liability costs in order to conduct business at the Boston Masonic building's apartments. If you have any questions about this process, contact the Grand Lodge business office via phone at 617-426-6040 or by e-mail by contacting R∴W∴ Donald M. Moran, Business Manager at
