George H Taber Lodge A.F. & A.M.
The idea of creating a Masonic lodge in Fairhaven was conceived by a number of area Masons that belonged to various lodges between Marion and Somerset. Since 19th century transportation did not lend itself to quick methods of travel, local Masons were unable to attend social functions to enjoy the fraternalism as often as they wished, so they decided to organize an Ancient and Accepted Lodge of Freemasons in Fairhaven.
On December 12, 1872, dispensation was granted by the Grand Lodge of Massachusetts to form the then-named Concordia Lodge in Fairhaven. Right Worshipful George H. Taber was a key person in obtaining the dispensation for a lodge in Fairhaven and is the first brother mentioned in that dispensation. On May 13th, 1901, it was voted to rename the lodge George H. Taber Lodge as a tribute to his contributions.
Today, the Lodge is proud to carry on the traditions of Freemasonry in serving the community. We are active in supporting Gifts to Give and the Masonic Angel fund, benevolent programs for children, fundraising events for the Shriner's hospitals, a gift giving programfor nursing home residents during the holidays, and many other programs. We also sponsor four blood drives a year in conjunction with the American Red Cross.
